How this calculator works

The VedaSpeak engine calculates the planets from your birth instant, the same way every time, with the sidereal zodiac and the Lahiri ayanamsha. No AI is involved in the calculation, and no person looks at your chart. Your local birth time is converted with the time-zone and daylight-saving rules that applied on that date. Read more in how we calculate.

Questions, answered.

What is a nakshatra?
Vedic astrology divides the zodiac into 27 nakshatras of 13°20′ each. Your birth nakshatra is the one the Moon was in when you were born.
What is a pada?
Each nakshatra has four padas (quarters) of 3°20′. The pada narrows the Moon’s position further and decides its navamsa (D9) sign.
What is the nakshatra lord?
In the Vimshottari dasha system each nakshatra is ruled by one of nine planets. The lord of your birth nakshatra rules the first Mahadasha of your life.
Do I need my birth time?
It helps. The Moon spends about a day in each nakshatra and about six hours in each pada, so without a time the calculator lists every nakshatra the Moon was in on your birth day.
