What is a Mahadasha?
Vimshottari dasha divides a 120-year cycle into nine Mahadashas, each ruled by one planet for a fixed number of years: Ketu 7, Venus 20, Sun 6, Moon 10, Mars 7, Rahu 18, Jupiter 16, Saturn 19, Mercury 17.
How is my current Mahadasha worked out?
From the Moon’s exact position at birth. Its nakshatra gives the first Mahadasha, and how far the Moon had travelled through that nakshatra gives how much of it was left at birth. The rest follow in order.
Why are no dates shown for my chart?
Dates need a birth time, because the Moon moves about 13 degrees a day. They are also withheld when the Moon sits so close to a nakshatra boundary that a small time difference would change the sequence.
Is my Mahadasha good or bad?
This calculator gives dates, not verdicts. How a period is read depends on the whole chart, and no period guarantees an outcome.
